What should I expect?
We dance in a circle around
a centre-piece, which is often some flowers,
leaves or a candle. The majority of dances are
done holding hands.
The steps of each dance are taught at the beginning of that dance but you will also learn by copying the feet of someone dancing a little ahead of you and by listening to the music. Often dances become embedded in your body and, without knowing the steps, your body seems to know what to do.
- We do not take a break during the evening but you may sit out a dance at any point if you want to and quietly watch.
- A short while into the dancing we take some time out in the circle to say our name and anything else we may want to share with the group.
At the end of the evening we come together in a close circle for a hug and to blow the candle out.

How long is the class?
From 7.30 to 9.15 p.m.
Is there anything else I need to know?
Please try
to be on time to start the dance promptly at 7.30
p.m. so as not to disturb others. This should be
a peaceful time to leave behind the cares of the
day and we do not want to distract the dancing
or break the magic.
If you leave the circle, perhaps to sit out a dance, then close the circle by joining together the hands of the people either side of you and sit out quietly and watch.
